There’s something magical about the southwest of WA that’s undefinable. The slower pace and array of landscapes where ocean meets the forest is an invitation to get lost and rejuvenate. For D it’s a trip home and for me, well I still have that same sense of anticipation whenever I visit. Like so many other West Aussies, our family has visited the region every year for the Easter weekend and I’ve never grown out of the childlike excitement once we leave the city in our rear view mirrors.
This past weekend we made the trip for a magazine photo shoot I’m doing (tough work, I know!) and we made the most of what is really a familiar home away from home for both of us. I won’t spoil the project I’m working on, but I can tell you it’s going to appear in an upcoming issue of Hearth Magazine!
On our journey home we literally lost ourselves (well I did, D knows the roads like he learnt to drive through them) and stumbled upon a true treasure in the Old Goldfields Cidery. Originally from London, the owner and producer brought with him an eclectic sense of styling and taste which can be seen right through his branding and interior styling of the place. We could have spent all day wandering through his orchards and tasting their range of ciders and fallen plums…
